This is the note that i took down as i was listening to Dr. Alec Couros.

After watching the video from Gordon Booth, the guest lecturer, I was able to grasp the idea of video conferencing. The video well explained the key concept of how to do video conferencing effectively. After watching the video, I was able to summarize the information in to 3 categories. Those four categories represent 1) technical planning, pre-session planning, 2) Preparing for the Session content, and 3) to construct the presentation plan to effectively share the studying information with the audiences.

 1) Technical planning involves everything from cameras to connection problems. This step is very important, because in order to maintain the screen visible to the viewers, all the technical systems should be working in good shape. The other reason why this step is important is because the basic idea of video conferencing is to share or teach the studying loads with others using technology, not having to meet each other face to face. After all the technical planning is finished, the next step is pre-session planning. Pre-session planning is to gather the information which you want to present to the audience. When doing pre-session planning, it is important to know what kind of stuff the audiences have to understand, and to find the most effective way to present certain information.

 2) Second step is to prepare for the video conference session. In this step, it is important to take out hew important ideas that you want to transfer to the audience from the materials that have been gathered in the planning step. Also in order to know if the audiences have fully understood the concepts, it is required to come up with some kind of method to monitor the audiences understanding.

3) The third step is to construct the presentation plan to effectively share the studying information with the audiences. It is very important for the instructor to teach the audience in the way that is easy to understand. The presentation skill may vary. For example the most effective way is to have the student to get talking about the materials thought, or to prepare a game or handouts that the students can do in order to review, and to show you their understandings.

After watching the video lecture from Gordon Booth, I was able to understand the concepts of video conferencing. The best part was I was able to know those little details that I haven’t noticed such as the technical problems that can happen.

The video “A vision of a student today” is well made to describe how students feel toward what they do or learn. Each student have different troubles going through the university years such as debt that they had to make in order to pay for the tuition, or some negative perspective views such as the number of books that they need to buy, which, they end up getting no information from. From watching this video, i was able to think about what kind of vision I had as a student. I think students normally ignore these kind of problems such as high tuitions fees, learning about the information that is not relevant to their life and etc… About today’s education, because every student experiences the same problems, and student does not have power to change what they think is wrong.  Nowadays in order to reduce the learning pressure to the students, programs such as online programs have been developed. I think learning though the technology can be a great way for the students to obtain new information, and learn them. Because the ways of exchanging the information through the internet have been improved so much, I found that there are so many options that students or the instructor can take to share ideas such as Skype, or the blogs. To conclude I hope many other methods can be developed in order to serve students demands.
